PROCESS.

Pale denim, cut short, opened at the sides and shaded from below. One black line runs through all of it.

    CUT

The jeans were cut down to bermuda length and the hems left raw, free to fray and loosen with every wear.

    FLARE

New panels were set into the side seams, opening the legs outward. They were finished with a leather-effect coating, so the added fabric reads as a different material: darker, denser, catching the light where the denim absorbs it.

    STRIPE

A single leather-effect stripe was drawn by hand down the back, from the waistband to the hem, crossing pocket and seam without stopping. Its edges are left rough, the mark of the hand that made it.

    ANTHRACITE

Anthracite was sprayed by hand from the hem upward, dense at the bottom and dissolving toward the hips. The pale denim darkens gradually, so the shorts seem to rise out of shadow.
