PROCESS.

One colour, applied three different ways. The bomber was not painted black: it was buried in it.

    BLACK

The whole jacket went into the dye, shell, ribbing and seams together. A first black that erases the original colour and leaves a uniform ground.

    PIGMENT

A layer of black pigment was worked over the dye. Pigment doesn’t sink into the fibre like dye does: it sits on the surface and breaks along the folds, creating depth inside the black.

    SPRAY

Black was sprayed by hand over specific areas, building shadows where the body moves and the jacket bends. A third black, darker and less even than the first two.

    LIGHT

A graphic was printed on the back by laser. After three layers of black, the light is the only thing that writes on it.
