Four layers on a pair of jeans: one to cover, one to break, one to mark, one to bind them together.
01
BLACK
The jeans were dyed black, erasing the original colour and leaving a dense, even ground to work on.
02
MARBLE
The black was broken up into a marbled surface. The colour lifts in clouds and veins across the legs, never in the same place twice, so the denim looks like stone more than fabric.
03
LIGHT
Wear was burned in by laser on the thighs and across the surface. The light removes colour from the fibre instead of tearing it, so the marks read as years of use, written directly into the denim.
04
BROWN
A final overdye in brown was laid over everything. It doesn’t change the black at first glance, but it warms the greys, deepens the marks and ties the previous layers into a single surface.
